Small Group Facilitator Course Packet

6 Sessions • Facilitator guide for small group Bible study using Born Again 360™

"Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted."

Galatians 6:1 KJV

Small Group Guardrails

Read and acknowledge before the first session.

  • •No forced public confession — sharing is always voluntary.
  • •No shaming — what someone shares must never be used against them.
  • •No pressure to share trauma — private history stays private.
  • •No unsafe reconciliation pressure — do not use forgiveness language to push someone back toward a dangerous situation.
  • •No diagnosing people — do not declare anyone's spiritual state, maturity, or salvation.
  • •No replacing pastoral care — this is a discussion guide, not a counseling session.
  • •Confidentiality does not cover danger, abuse, self-harm, harm to others, or threats. Follow your church's pastoral care and legal reporting policy.

Session 1

What Does It Mean to Be Born Again?

Facilitator Goal: Help the group understand that the new birth is a spiritual transformation — not just moral improvement or church attendance.

"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God... Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."

John 3:3, 5-6 KJV

Recommended Platform Pages

Opening Question

In your own words, how would you explain being 'born again' to someone who had never heard of it?

Discussion Questions

1. What is the difference between being religious and being regenerated?

2. Why does Jesus say you 'cannot see' the kingdom without being born again — not just that you won't enter?

3. What questions does someone need answered before they can genuinely respond to the gospel?

Private Reflection Question

Is there anything in your understanding of the new birth that feels incomplete or unresolved?

This question is for personal journaling — not group discussion.

Facilitator Caution

Some group members may be uncertain about their own new birth. Do not pressure anyone to declare themselves saved or unsaved. This is a teaching space, not an altar call.

Group Boundary Reminder

Private reflection on one's own salvation is personal. Do not ask group members to publicly declare their salvation status.

Session 2

Repentance, Grace, and Faith

Facilitator Goal: Clarify the gospel response — and expose common confusion between repentance and self-punishment, or grace and license.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV

Recommended Platform Pages

Opening Question

Have you ever heard someone describe repentance in a way that sounded more like self-punishment than change of direction?

Discussion Questions

1. What is the difference between godly sorrow that leads to repentance and worldly sorrow that leads to death (2 Cor. 7:10)?

2. How does grace change the way we relate to God — not just at salvation, but in ongoing daily life?

3. Where do believers often slide from grace into performance or self-effort?

Private Reflection Question

Is there an area where you personally have been trusting in effort more than grace?

This question is for personal journaling — not group discussion.

Facilitator Caution

Discussions about past sin, shame, or unbelief may arise. Do not allow group members to shame each other. Redirect to Scripture and grace.

Group Boundary Reminder

No group member should feel pressured to confess past sin publicly. Reflection is private. Sharing is voluntary.

Session 3

The Old Man and the New Man

Facilitator Goal: Help the group identify the ongoing tension between the old nature and the new, and understand the biblical framework for walking in the Spirit.

"Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin."

Romans 6:6 KJV

Recommended Platform Pages

Opening Question

Can you describe a recent situation where you felt the 'old man' rising in you — and what happened?

Discussion Questions

1. What does it mean to 'reckon' yourself dead to sin — and how do you do that in a real moment of temptation?

2. What patterns of the old nature are most commonly disguised as spirituality or self-righteousness in the church?

3. What is the role of the Holy Spirit in the battle between the old man and new man?

Private Reflection Question

What is one specific 'old man' pattern that you are most aware of right now in your own life?

This question is for personal journaling — not group discussion.

Facilitator Caution

This session may surface serious patterns — addiction, anger, or hidden sin. Do not allow the group to become a confessional. Facilitate at a teaching level.

Group Boundary Reminder

If someone discloses serious harm — to self or others — follow your church's pastoral care and reporting policy immediately.

Session 4

Fruit of the Spirit Under Pressure

Facilitator Goal: Help the group understand that spiritual fruit is produced through abiding — not manufactured through effort — and is most tested under real-life pressure.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

Galatians 5:22-23 KJV

Recommended Platform Pages

Opening Question

Which fruit of the Spirit do you find most challenged when life gets hard?

Discussion Questions

1. What is the difference between performing patience (white-knuckling it) and the Spirit producing longsuffering?

2. How does understanding that fruit is produced — not performed — change how you respond when you fail?

3. What conditions make it hardest for spiritual fruit to be visible in your life?

Private Reflection Question

Which fruit are you most aware is underdeveloped in your life right now — and why?

This question is for personal journaling — not group discussion.

Facilitator Caution

Avoid making this a comparison exercise. Fruit is not a competition. Some members may feel deeply convicted — direct them to grace.

Group Boundary Reminder

Do not diagnose group members' spiritual maturity based on their responses. Fruit is between them and God.

Session 5

Conviction, Condemnation, and Forgiveness

Facilitator Goal: Help the group distinguish between the Holy Spirit's conviction and the accuser's condemnation, and understand the full scope of God's forgiveness.

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."

Romans 8:1 KJV

Recommended Platform Pages

Opening Question

Have you ever felt accused by your own conscience in a way that didn't lead to growth — just shame?

Discussion Questions

1. What are the practical signs that a feeling of guilt is from the Holy Spirit rather than from the accuser?

2. Why do many believers struggle to receive forgiveness even after genuine repentance?

3. What does the finished work of Christ say to the person who keeps punishing themselves for forgiven sin?

Private Reflection Question

Is there something you've been forgiven for that you have not yet personally received forgiveness for?

This question is for personal journaling — not group discussion.

Facilitator Caution

This session can surface deep shame, abuse-related guilt, or trauma-linked false condemnation. Do not press for disclosure. Refer to pastoral care when needed.

Group Boundary Reminder

Do not offer 'forgiveness formulas' or declare someone free. That is the Spirit's work. Your role is to point to Scripture.

Session 6

Evidence of New Life and Growth

Facilitator Goal: Help the group recognize the real, often quiet signs of spiritual transformation — and encourage continued growth without false assurance or legalistic measurement.

"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."

Philippians 1:6 KJV

Recommended Platform Pages

Opening Question

What is the smallest sign of growth you've noticed in yourself over the last year?

Discussion Questions

1. What does true evidence of new life look like — and what can be easily counterfeited by religious behavior?

2. How do you maintain confidence in God's work in you during dry seasons when evidence seems absent?

3. What is the difference between assurance of salvation and presumption?

Private Reflection Question

What is one clear evidence of God's work in you that you can thank Him for today?

This question is for personal journaling — not group discussion.

Facilitator Caution

Avoid creating a standard list of 'signs' that becomes a legalistic checklist. Growth is personal. God defines it, not the group.

Group Boundary Reminder

Spiritual assurance is between the individual and God. Do not declare anyone's spiritual state based on group observation.
