Faith and Grace: Salvation Is the Gift of God
No human effort purchases salvation. Grace is God's sovereign gift. Faith is the hand that receives it — resting in Christ alone.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God."
Ephesians 2:8 KJV
Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
Three declarations: Saved by grace. Through faith. Not of works. Paul eliminates all boasting — the glory belongs to God alone.
Born Again 360™ Insight
Salvation is not a reward. It is a gift. Gifts are received, not earned.
What Is Grace?
What Grace Is
Grace is God's unmerited favor — His sovereign decision to save sinners who have no rightful claim to salvation. It is His mercy poured out through Jesus Christ. Grace is not merely a feeling of kindness. It is the saving, regenerating, sustaining power of God given freely to those who believe.
What Grace Is Not
Grace is not permission to continue in sin. It is not a safety net for ongoing rebellion. It is not cheap. Grace cost the Son of God His life. To treat grace as a license to sin is to misunderstand the cross and to reject the very purpose for which grace was given — transformation, not excused corruption.
What Is Faith?
What Faith Is
Biblical faith is not positive thinking or wishful belief. It is trust — placing the full weight of the soul on Jesus Christ: His person, His death, His resurrection, and His lordship. Faith receives what God has provided. It is reliance on Christ, not on self, works, feelings, or church membership.
What Faith Is Not
Faith is not empty words spoken at a church event. It is not intellectual agreement without surrender. It is not emotional excitement without change. Many say 'I believe' while living as if God does not exist or does not require obedience. Biblical faith transforms — it does not remain idle.
Romans 10:9-10 KJV
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Salvation involves both heart belief and mouth confession. The heart is where faith is rooted. The mouth speaks what the heart has genuinely received.
Born Again 360™ Insight
Confession without heart-belief is performance. Heart-belief without confession is hidden faith. True saving faith involves both.
Why Works Cannot Save
Works-based religion is the oldest false gospel. It says: do enough, be good enough, perform enough rituals, and God will accept you. But Scripture is clear — no amount of human righteousness can satisfy a perfectly holy God.
The problem is not simply what we do — it is what we are. Sin is not merely behavior; it is the condition of the human heart. And a heart that needs to be born again cannot repair itself through better behavior.
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us."
Titus 3:5 KJV
James 2:17 KJV
"Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone."
James is not contradicting Paul's teaching on grace — he is exposing false, intellectual faith. True saving faith produces works as its natural fruit. Dead faith has no fruit.
Born Again 360™ Insight
Works do not produce salvation. But genuine salvation produces works. The fruit is the evidence, not the root.
Philippians 1:6 KJV
"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."
God is the author and finisher of salvation. He began it. He will complete it. The born-again life is not dependent on human maintenance alone — it is upheld by God.
Born Again 360™ Insight
The believer is not on their own. God sustains what He starts.
