Altar Worker Training Path
A 5-session guided training for altar workers, prayer team members, and ministry helpers
"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek."
Isaiah 61:1 KJV
This training does not certify anyone. Altar workers serve under the authority of their local pastor and church. This pathway is a study resource — not a credential program or a replacement for pastoral training.
Non-Negotiable Altar Worker Guardrails
- ✕No manipulation — never use emotional pressure, urgency tactics, or shame to produce a response.
- ✕No forced prayer — never repeat a prayer multiple times or push someone to say words they do not mean.
- ✕No false assurance — never tell someone they are definitely saved based on a prayer or a moment.
- ✕No public pressure — never call people forward in a way that shames those who do not respond.
- ✕No crisis counseling — if someone discloses self-harm, abuse, or danger, refer immediately to the supervising pastor.
- ✕No platform authority — this tool exists to serve the altar; it does not replace pastoral authority.
- ✕Always serve under your pastor's authority and within your church's established altar protocols.
Session 1
New Birth and Spiritual Care
Ground altar workers in the biblical understanding of new birth before they help others navigate it.
Scripture Focus
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. — 2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV"
Session Cautions
- →Never declare someone saved on their behalf. Only God knows the heart.
- →Never rush or pressure someone through a response.
- →Never offer false assurance of salvation based on a prayer alone.
- →Always point toward local church membership and pastoral follow-up.
Session 2
Conviction vs. Condemnation
Equip altar workers to distinguish Holy Spirit conviction (which leads to repentance) from condemnation (which leads to despair) — and to minister accordingly.
Scripture Focus
"And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. — John 16:8 KJV"

Session Cautions
- →Never shame someone for struggling with condemnation — help them understand the difference.
- →Never add to someone's guilt by cataloguing all their sins publicly.
- →If someone expresses extreme hopelessness or self-harm risk, refer immediately to pastoral leadership. Do not try to counsel this alone.
- →Your role at the altar is to point to Christ — not to pronounce outcomes.
Session 3
Helping Without Pressuring
Train altar workers to serve the responding person — not the altar worker's desire to see visible results.
Scripture Focus
"The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. — Psalm 34:18 KJV"

Session Cautions
- →Never manufacture an emotional response. If someone is not ready, do not push.
- →Never repeat a prayer multiple times to make it 'more effective.'
- →Never use manipulation, emotional pressure, or guilt-inducing language.
- →Silently model peace. The Holy Spirit does not need your urgency.
- →A genuine response to God may look very different from what you expected.
Session 4
Sensitive Situations and Boundaries
Equip altar workers to recognize when situations exceed the altar setting — and to connect people with qualified care.
Scripture Focus
"Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. — Galatians 6:1 KJV"

Session Cautions
- →If someone discloses abuse, self-harm, crisis, or danger — refer immediately to the supervising pastor. Do not handle this alone.
- →Never promise confidentiality if safety is at risk.
- →Never offer to be someone's ongoing personal counselor.
- →Sensitive sin disclosures (addiction, sexual sin, abuse) require pastoral referral — not altar worker advice.
- →You are not a crisis counselor. Know your limits and honor them.
- →Born Again 360™ simulators are not tools for altar situations — they are pre-session study resources for workers.
Session 5
Prayer, Follow-Up, and Local Church Care
Ensure altar workers understand that their service connects to the local church — not replaces it.
Scripture Focus
"And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart. — Acts 2:46 KJV"

Session Cautions
- →Always point new believers toward their local church — not just to this platform.
- →Inform the supervising pastor of every meaningful altar interaction.
- →Do not create dependency on yourself. Connect people to the body of Christ.
- →Born Again 360™ can supplement discipleship — it never replaces it.
- →Prayer is the foundation. Every altar interaction should begin and end in prayer.
