When Pride Wants the Glory
Recognition, humility, hidden motives, and giving God the glory.
"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."
Proverbs 16:18 KJV
Learning Objectives
You'll Recognize
When praise, recognition, or the lack thereof becomes the measuring stick for service, and when the heart's true master is revealed through what it hungers for.
This Exposes
The hunger to be seen, admired, and credited; the willingness to serve for glory rather than for God; and the resentment that surfaces when someone else receives recognition.
Born-Again Response
That true humility is not self-deprecation but freedom from needing to be noticed; that John 3:30 ('He must increase, I must decrease') is not shame but liberation; and that service to God is its own reward.
Fruit Being Practiced
Meekness, Goodness, Faith
Scripture Anchor
John 3:30 KJV — He must increase, I must decrease. James 4:6 KJV — God resists the proud, gives grace to the humble.
"You do something well. People praise you. Or maybe they do not praise you enough. Something inside wants recognition, control, attention, and glory. Pride wants to be seen, admired, and credited. But Scripture calls the born-again heart to humility, gratitude, and giving glory to God."
What Happened
Praise, recognition, or the absence of recognition has tested whether the heart serves God or glory.
Why This Pressures
The flesh craves to be seen, admired, and credited. When recognition comes, pride wants to claim it. When recognition does not come, pride turns to resentment. Either way, the issue is who the heart is ultimately serving.
Spiritual Issue Exposed
Whether service and obedience are genuinely for God, or whether they are for the approval and admiration of others. Whether Christ increasing is truly the desire of the heart.
