Helping Seekers With Care — Training and Reference Guide

Session Title

Helping Seekers With Care

Recommended Time

30–60 minutes training session

Audience

Altar workers, ministry helpers, pastoral support team

1

The Altar Worker's Posture

Humble — you are a witness and helper, not the Savior.

Prayerful — enter every conversation with prayer; ask the Holy Spirit to lead.

Gentle — meet the seeker where they are with patience and care.

Biblical — point to what Scripture says, not what will feel immediately comforting.

Patient — do not rush. God's work often takes time.

Clear — name Jesus Christ plainly as the only Savior.

Non-manipulative — no emotional pressure, crowd momentum, or coercion.

2

Core Scriptures — KJV

James 1:19 KJV

"Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath."

Listen first. Always.

John 14:6 KJV

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Point here. Jesus Christ alone is the way.

Acts 4:12 KJV

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

There is no other name. No other option.

Acts 3:19 KJV

"Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord."

Repentance is turning — a change of direction from sin toward God.

Romans 10:9-10 KJV

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

Believing in the heart — not merely repeating words.

1 John 1:9 KJV

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Honest confession before God is always met with forgiveness and cleansing.

Training Session Flow

1

Begin with prayer for wisdom, gentleness, and clarity.

2

Read and discuss the core scriptures together.

3

Discuss the altar worker's role — what it is and what it is not.

4

Practice listening: one person shares a burden, the other listens only for 2 minutes.

5

Practice pointing to Christ: how do you direct someone to Jesus without putting words in their mouth?

6

Discuss prayer with a seeker: how to pray with (not over) someone honestly and without pressure.

7

Discuss aftercare: what comes after the altar — Scripture, church, follow-up, pastoral connection.

8

Review sensitive situations and what not to say.

9

Closing prayer for every seeker this team will encounter.

4

What Not to Say

"You are definitely saved now because you prayed."

Salvation is a work of God. A repeated prayer does not automatically equal new birth. Encourage continued seeking, Scripture, and church.

"You are lost because you did not cry or feel anything."

Do not judge salvation by emotional response. Scripture — not feeling — is the measure.

"Just forget your pain — God has taken it away."

Do not minimize genuine trauma, grief, or hurt. God heals, but healing takes time and often requires pastoral and professional care.

"Go back into that situation — God will protect you."

Never send someone back into a dangerous or abusive situation. Safety and forgiveness are separate issues.

"You do not need church — just read your Bible."

Scripture commands fellowship. The local church and pastoral care are God's design for discipleship.

"This platform confirms your salvation."

Born Again 360™ is a teaching tool. It cannot confirm or deny anyone's salvation before God.

5

Sensitive Situations — Leader Protocols

These protocols are mandatory — not optional.

Danger or Abuse

If someone discloses they are in danger or being abused — stop. Follow your church's safeguarding policy immediately. Involve qualified leadership and authorities where required by law.

Self-Harm or Crisis

Do not handle crisis alone. Involve qualified pastoral leadership and appropriate professional help. Do not promise to keep crisis information secret.

Minor Safety

Follow child protection laws and your church's policies without exception. The safety of minors must be protected above all other concerns.

Confession of Harm to Others

If someone confesses that they have harmed another person — follow your church's policy and applicable legal obligations. Get guidance from your pastor before responding.

Unsafe Reconciliation Pressure

Do not tell someone they must reconcile with an abuser to demonstrate forgiveness. Forgiveness and safety are not the same thing.

Altar Worker Checklist — Use at Every Altar

Listen before speaking — let the seeker express what they are feeling.

Ask: 'What is on your heart right now?' before offering anything.

Read Scripture aloud — let the Word of God speak first.

Point to Jesus Christ as the only Savior — not to the church, a leader, or a formula.

Pray carefully with them — not over them, without manufacturing pressure or emotion.

Encourage genuine next steps: Scripture, church, fellowship, discipleship.

Connect them to mature pastoral leadership for follow-up and ongoing care.

Do not promise what only God can give.

Do not claim the platform confirms their salvation.

Do not send anyone back into a dangerous situation.
